Doing High School Differently

“The master schedule is to a school what grading policies are to teachers and classrooms. It reveals the true beliefs, attitudes, values, and priorities of the school. The school’s master schedule is like looking at an MRI of the inner workings of a school. It is the window to the soul of the school.”
— “The Master Schedule: A Culture Indicator,” NASSPR National Association of Secondary School Principals

Design Specifications

Credits: Students still need an opportunity to earn 8-10 credits per year built into the school day. Remember, credits are not based on time but evidence.

Structure: Start time is 8:30 and end time is 3:15. Teachers are required to have 240 minutes of prep time per week. We cannot go backward which includes a 4x4 schedule, a 7 period schedule, or the current schedule.

9th Grade Academy: We are committed to a true 9th Grade Academy where a team of teachers focus on the 9th graders.

Project Block: All students will take a project block and all teachers will teach a project block with another teacher.

Crew: There needs to be a consistent Primary Person Model built into the schedule.

PLC: dedicated time for PLCs

Follow up and Homework
